Construction of the Wouri second bridge: start of the works proper

on 2 November 2013

The imminent ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone for the construction works of the second bridge over river Wouri in Douala has not overshadowed the prospect of the effective start of the construction works.

During his visit in Douala on Tuesday 8 October 2013, the Deputy Director of the Civil Cabinet asked the representative of the joint-venture responsible for the construction of the said bridge what is programmed immediately after the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone.  Minister Joseph LE asked this question because he did not want a break period between this ceremony and the effective start of the works.

Answering this question, the representative of the SOGEA/SATOM joint-venture, Mr. Le Page, assured the Minister that the works proper shall start between the 7 and 13 October 2013 by the felling of trees on the right of way of the construction site. He indicated that the 1st phase of the works comprising earthworks shall start on 2 November 2013, given that the holder of the contract received the notice to proceed three (3) months ago.
