This road structure located on the National Road N°4 at the junction with National Road N° 1, was inaugurated this November 10, 2022 by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, the Director General of the African Development Bank Group for the Central Africa Region, Serges N'guessan and the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Public Works in charge of Roads, Armand Ndjodom. The symbolic ribbon was cut and the commemorative plaque unveiled in front of a jubilant crowd.
Financed by the African Development Bank within the framework of the Support Program for the Transport Sector, phase II, this interchange aims at an efficient management of traffic from the two National Roads N°1 (Yaoundé-Batchenga-Bouam) and N°4 (Yaoundé-Bafoussam), the reduction of transport costs and transit time on the corridor which connects the capital of Cameroon to the eastern border of Nigeria via the West and North-west regions whose economy is essentially based on agriculture and trade, and on eliminating accident-prone dark spots on the said stretch of road.
This project was completed within 24 months, and mainly comprises 3.5 km of paved roads constituting the service roads; a four-span bridge with a total span of 51.4 linear meters; 5897 square meters of embankment protected by masonry; a rest area for heavy duty vehicles with a capacity of 68 parking lots. During the commissioning, the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Transport signed the documents transferring the rest area to the Ministry of Transport.
“Each kilometer of paved road, each linear meter of road built in our country, marks one more step towards our emergence. This shows that we are working to materialize the political will of a man, that of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya. I am happy to note that this structure has been completed and put into service,” said Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi before visiting the roads developed in the city of Obala as part of this project.
